DDOS Attack

A Distributed-Denial-of-Service (DDoS) Attack is a malicious attempt to cause delays or even complete failures on websites or data centers by overloading the IT-systems. The goal is to cause damage at the company or institution of target. In addition to enormous economic damage because of the downtime, reputational damage and data theft can also be consequences of a DDoS attack.

DDoS attacks are carried out with a so-called botnet. The botnet is a network that consists of computers and other devices which have been infected with malware, allowing the attacker to control them remotely. These individual devices are called bots. The attacker can send remote instructions to each of them. The bots then send requests to the victim’s network or server with the aim that it gets overwhelmed and resulting in a denial-of-service to normal traffic.
