Defense in Depth

Defense in depth, also known as layered security, is a strategy in information security where multiple layers of security controls (defenses) are deployed to protect an organization’s IT systems, data, and resources. The goal of this concept is to increase cyber security, making it more difficult for attackers to breach the system and minimizing the impact if an attack does occur. Even if one line of defense is compromised, the additional layers are there to stop the threat or at least make it much more challenging for the attacker to overcome all of them. Also, the concept is based on the idea that there is no single security measure that can provide complete protection against all possible threats.
