Ransomware

Ransomware is a type of malware that steals or encrypts valuable data on the targeted device to demand a ransom payment to recover the data. Some attackers also threaten to publish sensitive data in case the ransom isn’t paid. However, there is no guarantee that the attacker keeps his promise once the ransom is paid. Besides the massive amounts of money that might be demanded, a ransomware attack usually also results in downtime which causes very high additional costs.
