SMB/CIFS

Server message block (SMB) or common internet file system (CIFS) is a file sharing protocol invented by IBM that allows computers to read and write files to a remote host over a local area network. In fact, CIFS is a form of SMB, but they are interchangeable and usually used as synonyms.
